My Antonia

This book is not difficult to understand. It is a frame story told by a man named Jim. It details events from his childhood experiences, after being orphaned and moved from Virginia to Nebraska to live with his grandparents. It is a sweet story filled with beautiful landscapes, hardships of working the land, and the things that happen when people help each other.

I know we don't have to blog about "My Antonia" but of course I have a few questions after I've read it.

Most importantly, throughout the whole book Jim talks so highly of Antonia and seems just astonished by her presence and beauty, so was does he never marry her? He had so many opportunities but maybe he decided he wanted to go places and she never would.

Secondly, Jim had this weird repition of describing the characters eyes. Nina and her large brown eyes always crying, Lena had beautiful violet eyes (how can one have violet eyes?), and Antonia's was always a big subject. It just seemed that whenever describing a new character, he always hit upon their interesting eyes.

Last of all, why is Willa Cather the author if this man Jim is the one who wrote the story? Willa said this was HIS manuscript so why isn't his name under the author.
